Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message and return address may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. We keep that material within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems automatically receive basic technical details when a visitor loads a page:
- Page-view times and visit duration
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Internet Protocol address
- Pages viewed during the visit
- Referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We and our analytics providers use them to understand traffic patterns, including popular pages and where visits end. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, though disabling them may change how some functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and performance problems
- Operating, securing, and improving the site
- Routing a search query to the provider selected by the visitor
- Measuring which reference pages are useful
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The published material identifies official Jefferson County custodians, including the Sheriff's Office, the 23rd Judicial Circuit, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Missouri Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a report about another person. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes shown on some pages. Information submitted through a box is governed by that company's privacy policy. We do not control a partner's retention, processing, or disclosure practices, so review its terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to courts, law-enforcement offices, Missouri agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy terms apply. Read those terms before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own technology to measure activity across multiple websites and tailor ads. That processing occurs through the advertising company's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold by us. It may be disclosed or transmitted to:
- Analytics providers measuring site use and performance
- Search partners processing a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal requirement
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or another breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that such data was submitted, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with a visitor's place of residence. Missouri's Sunshine Law, Chapter 610, and RSMo §610.120 govern access to official public and closed criminal records; they do not convert this private site into a government records custodian. Where applicable privacy or consumer law grants a right, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of eligible personal data
- Ask to review personal information we retain
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Object to or opt out of processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as services or legal requirements change. A new version becomes available on this page, and its effective date will be updated.
